Offer to help by taking over “regular” errands during the time around the funeral. There are so many small details for the family to handle.
Maybe you could offer to do their;
Also you could answer the phone for them and make any of their necessary calls for them.
Don’t forget them in the months after the bereavement. Mundane chores are just so hard to face when your heart is breaking. Offer to pick up anything they need while you are already out. Or consider inviting them along and do these tasks together.
If you live far away – some areas offer shopping services, you could purchase them six months worth.
Or do you know a college student that needs to earn a little extra cash? Hire them to do the job. They might have flexible hours.
Certainly don’t forget to resource the church families or community services in their area.
