We can gain spiritual comfort in our time of bereavement.
Even though a person who has suffered a loss is usually hurting terribly, they can find words of comfort in the scriptures.
“Bible Readings in Time of Bereavement”
is a booklet
the American Bible Society put out long ago containing scripture suggestions to help in the grief process. However, it is no longer in print, so they have allowed me to list this selection. The ABS has a new booklet out “KJV Encouragement in Time of Loss”. The booklets are free (they ask that you cover shipping.) and come in packages of twenty-five.
There is a wonderful devotional book available. --Through a Season of Grief – devotions for your journey from mourning to joy -- by Bill Dunn and Kathy Leonard.
This devotional is specifically designed for those who have lost a loved one.
I put Psalm 56:8
You have collected all my tears and preserved them in your bottle! You have recorded every one in your book. TLB
- into tangible form –
In a teardrop bottle I put tear-shaped beads – because in that scripture God promises to store our tears in a bottle. He counts every one. What a great proof of how much He loves us. We may not understand why this has happened to us but we can know He cares! What a great sympathy Bible verse!
Your pastor is a great resource to talk to and also for help finding local bereavement groups that meet in your community. If you don’t have a pastor – the funeral director might be able to suggest one. Or the hospital – they always have a chaplain. Grieving the death of a loved one is not something to do alone!
