Bereavement music can be such a comfort during our grief. Somehow music can often touch us deeper than words on a page are able to. And because of this bereavement music can be a soothing balm to our soul and help us heal.
Below are some songs I have found helpful:
Sissy’s Song – Alan Jackson
Monday Morning Church – Alan Jackson
I Will Rise - Chris Tomlin
Cryin’ For Me/Wayman’s Song – Toby Keith
Temporary Home – Carrie Underwood
When I Get Where I’m Going –Brad Paisley
Finally Home – Mercy Me
I Can Only Imagine - Mercy Me
Cry Out to Jesus –Third Day
If You Knew – Steven W. Perry
Go Rest High On That Mountain - Vince Gill
Celbrate - Russell Underwood
The album: Comfort - Kathy Troccoli
Songwriter Steven Curtis Chapman recently lost a 5 year old daughter in a tragic accident. Out of his grief has come the album BEAUTY WILL RISE a "collection of 12 new and profound songs. This album is walks through the darkness of the loss of his daughter Maria, and while God continues to meet him there on the journey. Part lament, part praise, part grief, part hope, part wrestling, part pondering; these tracks resonate as Steven’s personal Psalms. It is a desperately hopeful, raw, personal, and honest recording that is likely the most important of his already incredible 20 plus year ministry.” (quote taken from his website)
One of my favorite radio stations is WBGL; fortunately you can stream them online. This link will take you to their home page; on the right upper corner of the page is a “listen now” button that will open into a new window so you can listen to the station streaming live. Their theme is to be “family friendly” and to always be positive and uplifting. I share them with you in the hopes that they can help with your healing.
Weez Stockton of WBGL suggests the following songs
Lucy – Skillet
You Wouldn't Cry - Mandisa
Homesick - Mercyme
These are only just the “tip of the iceberg” of songs that might be considered bereavement music. For other ideas visit my funeral music page.
Please contact me if you have any songs that have been helpful to you and hopefully I can post them as suggestions for others.
